How to Renew Your New Mexico Real Estate License

New Mexico Associate Brokers and Qualifying Brokers must renew their licenses every three years on the last day of the month following their birth month.

To maintain an active license, you must complete your continuing education (CE), ensure your courses are reported, and submit your renewal before your license expiration date.

Step 1: Complete the Required Continuing Education

Associate Brokers must complete 36 hours of CE every 3 years:

• 12 hours of Core Classes (one 4-hour Core Class each year)
• 4-hour Ethics course
• 4 hours of Core Electives
• Remaining hours in electives to total 36 hours

Qualifying Brokers must complete 42 hours of CE every 3 years:

• 12 hours of Core Classes (one 4-hour Core Class each year)
• 4-hour Ethics course
• 8 hours of Core Electives
• 6-hour QB Refresher course
• Attend at least one Commission Meeting, Rule Hearing, or Disciplinary Hearing
• Remaining hours in electives to total 42 hours

All courses must be approved by the New Mexico Real Estate Commission (NMREC).

Special Situations

• CE Exemption: Brokers are exempt from CE only if they were age 65 and had 20 continuous years of licensure in New Mexico prior to July 1, 2011.
• Property Management: Brokers offering property management services must complete additional property management coursework. This endorsement must be completed for each license offering property management and at each renewal.
• First Renewal: New Associate Brokers must complete either the 30-hour New Broker Business Practices course or CCIM 101 within the first year of licensure.
• Missed Annual Core Course: Missing a yearly Core Course may result in a penalty course requirement.

Step 2: Verify Your Course Completions

All course providers in New Mexico report completed courses to the New Mexico Real Estate Commission (NMREC).

Before renewing, log in to your NMPlus account and confirm that all of your continuing education credits have been posted. Courses are typically reported within 2 business days.

Step 3: Complete Your License Renewal

New Mexico real estate licenses are renewed online through the NMPlus system.

To renew your license:

1. Log in to your NMPlus account
2. Select “Apply for a License” at the top of the page and choose “Boards and Commissions Division”
3. Select “Real Estate Commission” from the list of boards and commissions
4. Choose the renewal application that matches your license type
5. Complete the application and upload any required documents if prompted
6. Pay the renewal fee and submit your application

After submitting, your renewal will be processed through NMPlus.

Additional Tips

• Renewal Timing: Your license expires every three years on the last day of the month following your birth month. NMREC typically sends a renewal reminder email about 2 months before your expiration date, but you are responsible for renewing on time even if you do not receive it.
• Annual Core Requirement: New Mexico requires one 4-hour Core Course each year of your 3-year cycle. You cannot make up a missed year at the end of your cycle, so plan ahead.
• First Renewal: New Associate Brokers must complete the New Broker Business Practices course or CCIM 101 within one year of licensure. This is separate from your standard CE requirements.
• Expired License: If your license has expired for less than one year, you may renew it by paying a total of $810. After one year, your license becomes inactive, and you must reapply and retest.
• License Status: You can check your license status and expiration date anytime through NMPlus or by using the public Search for License tool.
