How to get an Insurance Producer license in California
Prospective licensees must complete a 12-hour California Insurance Code and Ethics course, submit a background check, and pass a licensing exam before submitting a license application. Beginning January 1, 2026: California no longer requires pre-license education for individual insurance lines, however most students will still want a course to prepare for the licensing exam.
