How To Renew Your New York Real Estate License

New York real estate Salespersons and Brokers must renew their license every two years through the eAccessNY system. To renew, you must complete the required continuing education (CE) and submit your renewal application before your license expiration date.

Step 1: Complete the Required Continuing Education

New York requires 22.5 hours of continuing education every two years for license renewal.

Your CE must include:

• 3 hours of Fair Housing
• 2.5 hours of Ethical Business Practices
• 1 hour of Recent Legal Matters
• 2 hours of Implicit Bias Training
• 2 hours of Cultural Competency
• 1 hour of Law of Agency (2 hours if this is your first renewal as a Salesperson)

Any remaining hours may be completed with approved elective continuing education courses.

All courses must be approved by the New York Department of State, Division of Licensing Services, and may be taken online, by webinar, or in a classroom setting.

Important: All continuing education must be completed before submitting your renewal application. Completing your CE after you renew your license risks your license being renewed on time.

Step 2: Keep Your Course Completion Certificates

After completing a course, you will receive a certificate of completion. Save a copy of your certificates for your records.

As of February 4, 2026, New York real estate schools are no longer allowed to submit student completion lists to the Department of State. Because of this change, it is important to keep your course completion certificates in case you need to verify your continuing education.

Step 3: Complete Your License Renewal

It is important to remember that you must have all of your continuing education completed before you renew your license.

New York real estate licenses are renewed online through the eAccessNY licensing system.

To renew your license:

1. Log in to your eAccessNY account.
2. Select List of Licenses.
3. Choose the license you want to renew.
4. Select Renew License.
5. Confirm that you have completed your continuing education.
6. Pay the renewal fee and submit your renewal application.

After submitting your renewal, save or print the confirmation page for your records.

Renewal Fees

Renewal fees are paid through the eAccessNY system when you submit your renewal application.

• Salesperson renewal fee: $65
• Broker renewal fee: $185

• Check Your License Status: You can verify your license status and expiration date using the New York Department of State Public License Search.
• Verify a Course Provider: To confirm that a school is approved, search for the provider in the eAccessNY Public License Search by selecting "Organization."
• Renew Early: Start the renewal process before your license expires to avoid a lapse in your license status.
• Expired Licenses: New York does not allow a grace period for expired licenses. If your license expires, you must stop conducting real estate business until it is renewed. An expired license may still be renewed within two years of the expiration date, but you may not practice real estate during that time.
• Continuing Education Requirement for Brokers: The previous 15-year continuing education exemption was removed in 2021. All Brokers must complete continuing education.
