Anatomy of a Green Home

This is a non-credit course. Not for license renewals.

This course, presented by Earth Advantage, will provide you with a complete understanding of what goes into the 5 pillars of any green home -- energy efficiency, water conservation, healthy indoor air quality, responsible material use, and land stewardship – and will help you articulate the benefits of buying or upgrading to a “green home” to your clients.

Course Topics

This course will help real estate professionals to:

  • Gain expertise on the current market forces driving green home building

  • Bolster your toolkit of recommended green programs and resources that are available to help homeowners and builders achieve their goals

  • Learn about the latest and greatest green home features

  • Effectively market green homes and yourself as a green agent

  • Understand how to leverage financing and appraisals for your clients best interests

Course Content

This online course is approximately three hours long. It consists of 3-5 minute video presentations divided into 12 sections. Short quiz questions and activities may appear between video sections to help you remember the content covered in the videos.

How Millennials and Smart Homes are Changing Real Estate

Presented by Earth Advantage, this video course explains how Millennials and Smart Home are changing the way that real estate is purchased and sold. Millennials (individuals who were born between the early 1980s and late 1990s) are now the largest consumer segment in the U.S. and many have a different outlook when it comes to buying properties. This population segment is also hyper-connected to technology and these preferences are now apparent in real estate through smart home products and features. The "internet of things" (IOT) and connected-device market is exploding and the first products are already seeing widespread adoption.

Take this course and learn how to best meet a Millennial client's expectations and recommend smart home features.

This course will help you:

  • Understand the demographics of the Millennial Generation

  • Learn about their buying preferences and how that relates to green, energy efficient homes

  • Learn about smart home devices (such as thermostats, lighting, smoke detectors, security cameras, water heaters, door locks, and more) and the current/future potential of connected devices

  • Review current and historic market trends

  • Identify take-away strategies for connecting with Millennials

  • Provide advice to Millennial clients about upgrading existing homes for smart technology, energy efficiency and sustainability

Course Content

This online video course is divided into six parts totaling approximately 50 minutes of video content. Each video must be watched in its entirety to move onto the next video. At the end of the course is a short 12-question test with a 70% minimum passing score. A course completion certificate will be generated after the final exam has been successfully completed.

Making Savvy Home Energy and Solar Upgrades

This course, presented by Earth Advantage, explains how energy efficiency upgrades and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems enhance existing homes. Learning about energy efficiency and solar power upgrades can help you guide your clients towards making savvy upgrade decisions in order to lower their cost of ownership, increase their resale value, and improve the comfort, durability, and health of their home.

You will learn what features and systems enable a home perform well, use less energy, and deliver superior comfort. You will also come away with tools to direct clients to the most cost effective upgrades with the greatest benefits. With a working knowledge of the incentives and programs that are available, you can empower clients to close on older homes with good energy upgrade potential.

Course Topics

In this course you will:

  • Learn about the many homeowner benefits of energy efficiency upgrades.
  • Understand how guiding your clients to energy efficiency upgrades can help your business.
  • Examine common opportunities for that will improve home performance.
  • Learn about the different energy efficiency incentives, programs and resources that you can refer to your clients.
  • Understand what makes good candidate homes for adding Solar PV systems and their value.
