Learn how to get a real estate principal broker license in Oregon and choose the licensing courses right for you.
To become a real estate principal broker in Oregon, you must:
All applicants for a principal broker license must have at least 3 years of active real estate experience. If you are a licensed Oregon real estate broker, the Oregon Real Estate Agency already has record of your past 3 years of real estate experience on-file.
You will need to complete your real estate license application in the Agency's online license management system. After your application is processed you will receive an applicant ID. If you are licensed in a different state, you will be required to submit a certified license history from that state.
You must complete a 40-hour principal broker license training course called Brokerage Administration and Sales Supervision (BASS), usually referred to as "the BASS course" or just "BASS". This course covers brokerage and management topics such as business planning, advertising, state regulations, financial records, and a review of real estate fundamentals.
Out-of-state applicants must also take a 150-hour Oregon real estate broker pre-license training course in addition to the 40-hour BASS course. Oregon requires all brokers to take this basic pre-license education, regardless of licensing in other states. Our Out-of-State Principal Broker Bundle covers all the courses you need:
After passing the BASS course, your Applicant ID and record of successful completion will be automatically submitted to the OREA's state licensing exam provider, PSI. You will then receive an email with instructions on how to schedule your licensing exam.
The exam will be given at one of the provider's testing facilities, with locations throughout Oregon. After you successfully pass the state licensing exam, you can make payment for the background check and fingerprinting directly at the testing center. This background check may take several weeks to complete.
