How to Renew Your West Virginia Real Estate License

West Virginia real estate Salespersons and Brokers must renew their licenses annually through the WVREC Online License Renewal System. The license cycle runs from July 1 through June 30 each year. To renew, you must complete the required continuing education (CE) and submit your renewal before your license expires.

Step 1: Complete the Required Continuing Education

West Virginia requires 7 hours of CE each year.

Salespersons must complete:

• 7 hours of WVREC-approved continuing education

Brokers and Associate Brokers must complete:

• 3 hours of broker-level continuing education
• 4 additional hours of WVREC-approved continuing education

Important: Continuing education must be completed by June 30 prior to license renewal. Courses may not be repeated in two consecutive years for CE credit.

Step 2: Verify Your Course Completions

Licensees can log in to CE Broker to view continuing education compliance and course completion records.

After logging in, review your Course History and CE Compliance Status to confirm that all required hours have been reported. Course providers report completed courses directly to CE Broker, but you should retain copies of your completion certificates for your records.

Important: You can renew only after your completed CE credits have been reported to CE Broker.

Step 3: Complete Your License Renewal

West Virginia real estate licenses are renewed online through the WVREC Online License Renewal System. The renewal period opens May 1 and closes June 30.

To renew your license:

1. Go to the WVREC Licensing Homepage
2. Select your license renewal option
3. Log in to the WVREC Online License Renewal System by entering your license number and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
4. Follow the prompts to review and update your information, if needed.
5. Complete your application
6. Pay your renewal fee using a credit card or an electronic check.

After paying, you will receive confirmation of your renewal and an email containing your updated license. Save the renewal confirmation email and print a copy of your updated license for your personal records.

Additional Tips

• Renewal Timing: You may renew your license between May 1 and June 30. Licenses expire if not renewed by June 30.
• CE Timing: All continuing education must be completed by June 30 prior to renewal.
• CE Broker: WVREC uses CE Broker to track continuing education compliance. If you have not done so already, create your free CE Broker account to track your CE. Course completions may take 24-48 hours to appear in CE Broker, and you cannot renew until they do.
• Renewal Responsibility: You are responsible for renewing your license on time each year, regardless of license status.
• Expired License: Failure to renew by June 30 causes the license to become expired. The license must be renewed or reinstated by December 31 of the expiration year to avoid termination.
• Late Renewal: Licenses renewed between July 1 and August 31 require an additional $50 fee. Licenses reinstated between September 1 and October 31 require an additional $75 fee. Licenses reinstated between November 1 and December 31 require an additional $100 fee.
• Inactive License: Inactive licensees are exempt from continuing education requirements but must still renew annually. Failure to renew will result in license cancellation.
• CE Exemptions: Continuing education is not required for inactive licensees, licensees who have maintained a license continuously since July 1, 1969, or licensees renewing for the first time after qualifying by passing both the national and state examinations during the fiscal year of their first required renewal.
• Nonresident Licensees: Nonresident licensees must comply with continuing education requirements. Credit earned in another jurisdiction may be accepted if the jurisdiction has comparable requirements and recognizes West Virginia continuing education credits.
