How to Renew Your Pennsylvania Real Estate License

Pennsylvania real estate Salespersons and Brokers must renew their licenses every two years by May 31 of every even-numbered year. To renew, you must complete your continuing education (CE) and submit your renewal before your license expires.

Step 1: Complete the Required Continuing Education

Pennsylvania requires 14 hours of CE every renewal cycle.

First-Time Renewal:

If this is your first renewal as a salesperson, The Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission requires a special 14-hour commission-developed course that will satisfy your entire first time renewal education requirement.

Subsequent Renewal:

Salesperson and Brokers renewing for the second or subsequent time must complete:

• 3 hours in Agency
• 2 hours in Fair Housing
• 9 hours of elective courses

All courses must be approved by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission.

Important: All continuing education must be completed before May 31, 2026. Be sure to complete your courses early, as course providers do not report completions to the state.

Step 2: Verify Your Course Completions

Pennsylvania does not use a CE tracking system.

Course providers do not report completions to the Pennsylvania State Real Estate Commission. You are responsible for maintaining your own records.

Keep your certificates of completion and confirm you have completed all required hours before renewing your license.

Step 3: Complete Your License Renewal

Pennsylvania real estate licenses are renewed online through the PALS (Pennsylvania Licensing System).

You will receive a renewal notice with a registration code approximately 60 days before your license expires.

To renew your license:

1. Log in to your PALS account (or create one if needed)
2. Select your license and begin the renewal process
3. Update your information and complete the application
4. Review your application for accuracy
5. Pay the required fee and submit your renewal

After submitting, you will receive confirmation of your renewal.

Renewal fees are paid through the PALS system at the time of application submission.

• Salesperson: $96
• Associate Broker: $96
• Broker: $126

Additional Tips

• Renewal Timing: Licenses expire on May 31 of every even-numbered year. Be sure to renew before your expiration date to maintain active status.
• No Grace Period: There is no grace period. If you do not renew by May 31, your license will expire.
• Expired License: You may not practice real estate once your license has expired.
• Online Renewal Only: Paper renewal applications are no longer accepted. All renewals must be completed through the PALS system.
• Email Address: Renewal notices are sent to the email address on file in PALS. Be sure your email is up to date.
• Record Keeping: You must keep your CE certificates, as the state does not track course completions.
• License Status: You can verify your license status at any time through the PALS system.
• Reactivation Requirements: If your license is expired and you want to reactivate it, you must complete 14 hours of CE. This CE cannot be used toward your next renewal, so an additional 14 hours will still be required.
• Inactive for 5 Years: If your license remains inactive for more than five years, you must pass the licensing exam again to regain licensure.
