The Utah Division of Real Estate (DRE) require those who hold a Utah mortgage license to compete a two-hour course on Utah mortgage laws and regulations as a requirement for annual license renewal. This online course covers the required topics as defined by the DRE for 2020 license renewal through the NMLS.

This course satisfies 2 hours of required continuing education for Utah licensed mortgage loan originators. This course is approved by the NMLS. A valid NMLS ID number is required to receive credit for this course. Certain states may have additional requirements beyond what this course provides. This course is new for 2021 and meets the SAFE Act's successive years rule.

The Utah Division of Real Estate (DRE) require those who hold a Utah mortgage license to completed a two-hour course on Utah mortgage laws and regulations as a requirement for annual license renewal. This online course covers the required topics as defined by the DRE for 2021 license renewal through the NMLS.

This two-hour course will cover the topics outlined by the DRE. We'll start with updates to the Utah Residential Mortgage Practices and Licensing Act that were added in 2020. Next, we'll explain the terminology changes that were updated in Utah's administrative rules. Module 3 will cover mandated topics outlined by the DRE such as the new targeted solicitations law and resources for consumers to file complaints.. Finally, we'll review cases of licensee violations that resulted in orders or fines by the DRE.

Topics and Learning Objectives

This course consists of four modules and a final exam:

  1. Updates to the Utah Residential Mortgage Practices and Licensing Act (15 minutes)
  2. Mortgage Administrative Rule Changes (5 minutes)
  3. Other Topics - Targeted Solicitation Law and Complaint Resources (15 minutes)
  4. Mortgage Licensing and Disciplinary Action Case Studies (65 minutes)
  5. Final exam

Total study time: 2 clock hours (100 minutes)

This course will prepare Utah DRE-licensed MLOs to:

  • explain when a license holder is required to complete continuing education courses.
  • recognize what kind of continuing education providers satisfy the DRE requirements.
  • identify when a new loan originator is required to take the division-approved continuing education course.
  • review changes made to regulations such as the removal of DRE-authorization for CE instructors and removal of the requirement that lending managers review every conduct complaint regarding licensed MLOs and unlicensed personnel.
  • list which types of targeted solicitations are subject to new restrictions enacted by the Consumer Sales Practices Amendments.
  • identify the governmental agencies that accept complaints regarding mortgages, banks, and other financial institutions.
  • describe how to report complaints to the appropriate agencies responsible for regulating the real estate and financial industries.
  • describe various actions the Division took against applicants and licensees
