This course is designed to give a historical overview of the federal Fair Housing Laws and an in-depth discussion of the individual laws and their application to the practice of real estate.

The course emphasizes anti-discriminatory conduct which all licensees should practice. The course concludes by discussing the voluntary affirmative action marketing program (VAMA) and why promoting fair housing laws is a positive force at work in this state and throughout the nation.

Course Topics

This course will address the following topics.

  • Chapter 1: The History of Fair Housing Laws
  • Chapter 2: Discussion of the Federal Fair Housing Law
  • Chapter 3: Fair Housing Practices
  • Chapter 4: The Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA)

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • describe the history of discrimination and the important laws resulting from it.
  • list the seven federally protected classes of individuals.
  • employ techniques to prevent discrimination in housing.

Course Progress and Completion

This online course includes reading material, review videos, and short quizzes at the end of each chapter. Students must pass each activity in order to progress through the course. At the end of the course is a 10-question final exam that is not timed. Students have one attempt at the final exam. Failing to earn an 80% passing score requires the student to enroll in the course again (FAC 61J2-3.009(4)(a)). Re-enrollment is free.

A Notice of Satisfactory Course Completion Record is available immediately after passing the final exam. The successful completion record will be electronically uploaded to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) within 48 hours. Licensees can verify their continuing education records by using the DBPR's online services website, myfloridalicense.com

This course will remain available to students for 365 days after enrollment.
