Learn How To Get A Real Estate License in Georgia
In Georgia, real estate agents are referred to as Real Estate Salespersons. The Georgia Real Estate Commission requires the following for new real estate licensees:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Complete 75 hours of real estate training
New real estate salespersons must also collect a Georgia Crime Information Center report (GCIC report), which outlines any criminal activity the new licensee has been reported to be involved in. The report can be ordered at most local sheriff or police stations in the state.
After the required 75 hours of course work has been finished, Applied Measurement Professionals Inc. (AMP) will be notified of the course completion. AMP is the company who administers the state licensing examination for Georgia. Exam candidates can contact AMP (1-800-345-6559) after the 75 hours of study time have been completed in order to schedule a time to take the state licensing examination. Exam scheduling can also be done online at www.goamp.com.
When the state exam has been successfully passed, AMP will issue a inactive salesperson license to the new agent. To activate the license, a saleperson must submit a Sponsoring Broker Statement form and the GCIC report to AMP for processing. A salesperson can not practice real estate until the license has been activated.
If the new Georgia salesperson candidate holds an active real estate license in another state, the GREC will issue a "reciprocal license" without requiring the licensee to take the Georgia state exam, unless the agent is a resident of Florida. Existing real estate sales associates from Florida must take the state portion of the Georgia licensing examination.
