Learn How To Get A Real Estate License in Florida
In Florida, real estate agents are referred to as Real Estate Sales Associates. The Florida Real Estate Commission requires the following for new real estate licensees:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Complete 63 hours of real estate training
If you hold an active real estate license and live in Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, or Tennessee, the process of getting a Florida real estate associates license is much simpler. The FREC has a "mutual recognition" with those states, and an existing active real estate licensee can take a simple 40-question test to earn a Florida associates license. The Florida real estate license test must be passed with a score of at least 30.
For new licensees, after passing the required 63 hours of course study, electronic fingerprints must be submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The fingerprinting is scheduled through Pearson VUE.
Pearson VUE is also responsible for managing Florida's real estate license examination. After completing the course hours and getting fingerprinted, students can register for the licensing exam at the Pearson VUE website. A passing score of at least 75 is required.
Passing the state licensing exam will earn a sales associate an inactive real estate license. To activate a license, the associate must be sponsored by a real estate broker by submitting Form RE-2050-1 with the broker's information listed in the appropriate location on the form. A new sales associate can submit form RE-2050-1 at the time of the state exam in order to immediately start with an active real estate license.
